"Curiosity Doesn't Have to Kill the Cat: Navigating the Thicket of Laws Regulating Employee Hiring"
Join us this month as Ina Silvergleid of A Bridge Forward LLC helps us navigate the laws surrounding employee hiring. Now that most job offers are contingent on "passing" a background check, state laws regulating employer reliance on criminal and credit background checks have become commonplace. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission now sues employers it believes refuse to hire anyone with a criminal record. Claims against employers and consumer reporting agencies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act have exploded and keeping on top of this rapidly changing legal landscape is crucial to avoid being sued.
Ms. Silvergleid is a 1990 graduate of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. After clerking for a federal court judge in Kansas City, Ms. Silvergleid returned to Chicago, where she worked as an employment attorney in both the public and private sector for more than 15 years. In 2009, Ms. Silvergleid began volunteering at an expungement help desk at the Skokie courthouse. Troubled by the obstacles people with a criminal background face when seeking employment or a professional license, Ms. Silvergleid launched A Bridge Forward LLC in 2012. Using her unique background (employment, criminal and criminal records relief law), Ms. Silvergleid tailors her legal strategy to best advance her client’s job and career objectives.
This event is part of our Business Building Luncheon series, where we hold interactive presentations designed to help you strengthen your business skills and increase your networking base.
