Automotive Intern - PAID
The Village of Skokie is offering an exciting, hands-on experience as an Automotive Intern, working in our busy and dynamic Public Works Dept. This unique intern experience will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of Village fleet vehicles including passenger, police, fire, and ambulance vehicles, mowers, and other construction and heavy equipment. We are flexible and willing to modify the job functions to fit the needs of an internship. Hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Flexibility to work 2 – 5 days per week, not to exceed 500 hours in the 12-month period following the start of the internship.
In this position you will perform computer data entry using fleet software, order and retrieve parts, wash vehicles, and assist with general shop maintenance. You will be taught on-the-job skills such as inspecting, diagnostics, testing, and repairing vehicles and equipment; assist with automotive servicing job duties including fluid and pressure checks, oil changes, replacing filters, tire inspections and rotation, replacing headlights/brake lights, and general safety inspections. Physical activities may include occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and frequent kneeling, squatting, walking, standing, and driving; Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Must be a current high school Senior enrolled in automotive coursework or a current student attending, or a recent graduate from, an accredited college, university, or technical school with an emphasis on automotive or diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or closely related field; Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age at the time of application; This position requires a physical examination and drug screening prior to beginning work.
The hourly pay range for this position is $18.54 - $23.65. The starting hourly pay range is $18.54 - $20.44 (DOQ).
