NEW 2020 LAWS IMPACTING SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
Presenter: David Hartley, Keith B. Baker, Ltd.
Every New Year brings a bevy of new laws, and 2020 is no different with over 250 new laws taking effect in Illinois alone, much less at the federal level. Many of these laws will particularly impact small business owners creating both new hurdles and new opportunities.
In this discussion we will review some of the most impactful new laws for Illinois small business owners, including:
o Minimum Wage Increases, including possible tax credits available for small business owners;
o Sexual Harassment Rule Changes and new Mandatory Training;
o The Federal SECURE Act, and new opportunities/challenges for retirement planning;
o New Data Breach Reporting for Illinois businesses; and
o Amendments to the LLC Act involving personal liability.
Presenter: David Hartley, an associate attorney at the law offices of Keith B. Baker, Ltd., is a graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia. His legal practice focuses on small businesses, taxation, and estate planning; three of the areas that are often the most impactful for small business owners.
Mr. Hartley has worked with numerous businesses and individuals to provide legal counsel on a range of topics including complex business formation, contract negotiations, business strategy, regulatory matters, estate planning and specialized tax planning. He has experience facilitating all stages of million dollar sales and acquisitions of closely held businesses and real estate. Mr. Hartley is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association, the president elect of the Skokie Valley Rotary club, and a volunteer for Will For Heroes - helping prepare estate planning documents for Chicago area police officers, fire fighters, emergency responders, and active duty military.
