Communications Operator - Lateral Entry Only (Full Time)

The Village of Skokie is currently seeking candidates for the position of Communications Operator – Lateral Entry, working in the Police/Fire Dispatch Center.  Lateral Entry candidates are required to have at least 2 years of full time experience working as a 9-1-1 Communications Operator / Dispatcher.  The primary duties are to receive general and emergency phone calls via the 9-1-1 phone system, obtain necessary information, dispatch Fire, Police and EMS units, enter data into a Computer Aided Dispatch system and transmit appropriate responses.
 
The Communications Center operates 24 / 7 every day, including holidays; Operators work a 40-hour week and will be required to work ANY and ALL shifts, based on operational need; High school diploma or equivalent required; Must have ability to handle simultaneous tasks and work in a multi-staff, team environment; Must have a clear speaking voice, good hearing, and excellent listening & verbal communications skills; Must have technical skills associated with using a personal computer.  To view the complete job description, please visit the Skokie Jobs page at skokie.org and select the Communications Operator – Lateral Entry Only position.
 
Components of the selection process include: Communications Operator test, interview, 2-hour real time observation period in the Dispatch Center, polygraph examination, in-depth background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination, including a drug screen.
 
The salary range for this position is $70,568 - $92,316. The annualized starting salary range for lateral entry candidates is $70,568 - $85,776 (DOQ). Generous benefits package includes medical, dental & life insurance; IMRF retirement pension plan; paid vacation days, sick days, and holidays in the first year; 457(b) tax-deferred compensation plan.
