The Village of Skokie is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Automotive Mechanic. Under general supervision of the Automotive Supervisor, performs skilled repair and maintenance work on a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment; Performs general maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Village equipment, including passenger vehicles, light and heavy duty diesel trucks, snow and ice removal equipment, tractors, loaders, sweepers, backhoes, graders, fire apparatus, and EMS equipment; Performs regular inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of shop equipment and facilities; Diagnoses operator concerns and vehicle defects accurately and in a timely manner; Uses fleet management software to document repairs, inspections, and diagnostic results; Prepares seasonal equipment for use, prepares vehicles for seasonal needs; Willingness to respond to occasional overtime and off-hour emergencies; Performs other work-related tasks, as necessary.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and five years’ experience working in the auto/truck repair industry; Valid State of Illinois Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement required, or ability to attain within 90 days of employment; Class “A” CDL preferred; National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence Master Automobile Technician and/or Master Heavy Duty Truck Technician certification required, Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification required, and Mobile Air Conditioning license required, or ability to attain all within 12 months of employment; Ability to utilize hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, torches, safety stands, bench grinders, drill presses, tire equipment, lift trucks, fluid and grease dispensers, and hydraulic presses Must possess a complete set of automotive tools up to 1 ¼” including mobile storage of same. The salary range for this position is $78,274 - $102,397. The annualized starting salary range is $$78,274 - $90,612 (DOQ).
