Public Health Intern - Unpaid

The Village of Skokie is currently seeking qualified candidates interested in an unpaid internship, assisting our Health & Human Services division with the MAPP 2.0 community health assessment and improvement planning process.  Under the general direction of the Director of Health and Human Services, with day-to-day guidance from the Public Health Program Coordinator/Analyst, the Public Health Intern duties include researching, collecting, organizing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative public health data; developing and supporting community assessment tools such as surveys, questionnaires, and stakeholder input methods; assisting with outreach to residents and community partners; and preparing summaries, charts, reports, presentations, and other materials to identify health trends, disparities, assets, priority needs, and key themes. Supports the development of community health improvement goals, objectives, strategies, action steps, timelines, and evaluation measures with an emphasis on health equity. Assists in drafting and organizing the Community Health Improvement Plan in alignment with applicable public health requirements; Prepares and disseminates public health materials for community stakeholders, partners, and other audiences; Performs other work-related duties, as required; Work will be performed both outdoors and in an office setting; Must follow all safety rules of the Village.   To view the complete job description, please visit the Skokie Jobs page at skokie.org and select the Public Health Intern position.
 
The preferred internship term is July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. The Village will also consider applicants seeking a shorter internship experience, including approximately three months, six months, or the 2026–2027 academic year, August 2026 through May 2027. Start and end dates may vary based on program requirements, applicant availability, and department needs. Applicants should include their anticipated availability in their letter of interest.
 
Must be 18 years old prior to beginning the internship; Valid Driver’s License; Current enrollment in a Master’s in Public Health program with major course work in Health Policy and Administration, Public Health Administration, or a closely related concentration required; Able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite software; Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public; The successful completion of a brief physical examination and drug test is required.  The Village of Skokie tests for Cannabis. In keeping with Federal Law, we consider Cannabis to be an illegal drug.  This unpaid internship is not eligible for any health insurance or retirement benefits, you will not receive any compensation, and this is not an offer of future employment.
