The Village of Skokie is seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working, personable individual for the position of Farmers’ Market Asst. Manager. This is a temporary, seasonal position. This position does not qualify for any health insurance benefits or retirement pension benefits.
Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sundays, May 31 through November 1. Training two Sundays in April. Occasional hours needed outside of market hours. Hourly pay rate: $25.00.
The Assistant Market Manager supports the planning, coordination, and day-to-day operations of the municipal Farmer’s Market. This role ensures a welcoming, well-organized market that complies with local regulations, promotes local agriculture, and delivers an excellent experience for vendors and visitors. Assists with market setup and breakdown, including signage, vendor booth placement, traffic flow, and cleanliness. Monitors the market during operating hours to address vendor or customer concerns, enforce rules, and maintain a safe environment. Provide reports and feedback to the Market Manager to improve market operations. The Assistant Manager will manage the Link/Match program at the farmers market tent during the market, maintain the log sheet, make Link/Match bags, explain the Link/Match program to customers. Performs other work-related duties, as required. Must follow all safety rules of the Village.
Experience in event coordination, retail management, or coordinating community programs is a plus. Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people while conveying a welcoming, service-oriented attitude that fosters a sense of hospitality; Must be able to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and the community; Bilingual skills helpful but not required. Basic First Aid / CPR / AED certification desired but not required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
